From
Pedagogy of the Oppressed
by Paulo Freire
"Apart from inquiry, apart from the praxis [unification of theory and action], individuals cannot be truly human. Knowledge emerges only through invention and re-invention, though the restless, impatient, continuing, hopeful inquiry human beings pursue in the wolrd, with the world, and with each other".
The bracketed definition of praxis is my own; Freire's definition is as follows: "Liberation is a praxis: the action and reflection of men and women upon their world in order to transform it".
