Voicemail FAQ's
Setting up Voicemail
On campus, press the Messages button on the lower right of your telephone.
If you are off-campus, dial YOUR direct phone number (e.g., 725-3030) and press * (asterisk) when you are welcomed to the messaging system. Follow the instructions to set up your name, greeting, and password. Do not immediately press * or you will have to start again. When you complete your voicemail set up, the system will state that "You have finished enrollment."
Voicemail Greeting Tips
Information you may wish to include in your greeting
- Your name
- Your Office (e.g. Development Office at Bowdoin College)
- Your telephone number - including prefix
- Hours of operation or when you can be reached
- Provide the caller with another contact if possible.
Sample Greeting
"Hello. You have reached Jill Jones at 207-725-7500 in the Development Office at Bowdoin College. My office hours are 8:30 a.m.to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Please leave a message and I will return your call as soon as possible. If you need immediate assistance please dial the Development Office at 207-725-9276. Thank you.
Voicemail Tips
To access your voicemail from your desk
- Press the Messages button.
- Enter your password followed by #
To access your voicemail from someone else's desk
- Press the Messages button followed by the * key
- Enter your extension number followed by the # key
- Enter your password followed by the # key
To access your voicemail from off campus
- Dial 721-5000
- When asked to enter your ID, enter your 4-digit extension followed by the # key
- When asked to enter your password, enter your password followed by the # key
Or
- Dial your full number
- When you hear your greeting, press the * key
- At the 'Enter your ID' prompt, enter your 4-digit extension followed by the # key
- Then enter your password, again followed by the # key
To skip the voicemail greeting of someone you call, press the # key
To Transfer a caller directly to another person's voicemail
- Press the Transfr soft key, then press the * key twice then the extension number followed by the Transfr soft key.
