New Voice over IP Telephones

The IT Department has replaced Bowdoin's aging 20-year-old telephone system with an new industry-standard Cisco solution.

What this Means to You - Faculty and Staff

  • Telephone numbers will remain the same.
  • Long distance calling codes will remain the same but instead of dialing it before the phone number you will dial it after.

How this May Benefit You

  • The ability to view a list of all the calls you have placed, received or missed by pressing one button.
  • Direct access to the Bowdoin telephone directory.
  • A call forwarding feature that enables you to forward your extension to a cell phone or another telephone extension so you can be easily accessible across campus.
  • High-quality speakerphone.
  • Your "Out of Office" telephone greeting can be programmed to turn on and off at a specific time and date so you do not need to remember when returning to campus.
  • Help instructions are accessible via audio/visual aids through the telephone.

What this Means to You - Students

  • Telephone numbers will change and be 5 digits.
  • Each individual student will receive their own phone number.
  • The new phone numbers will start with (207) 208-xxxx
  • Telephone numbers will stay assigned to you all 4 years at Bowdoin.
  • Long distance calling codes will remain the same but instead of dialing the code before the phone number you will dial it after.
