How To Get Connected
In order to get connected to the Bowdoin network, students need five items:
- a computer that meets minimum requirements as listed below. Bowdoin College reserves the right to disconnect any unsupported device found to be affecting the integrity of the network.
- a minimum 10 base T Ethernet network card (NIC). For help installing and configuring your NIC call REACH at 721-5050.
- an Ethernet cable. IT will provide a 7-meter Ethernet cable to all first year students. Cables can also be purchases at most major office supply stores.
- an active outlet (port) in the physical location of the computer. Ports are located in every student room in the college-owned residences and all campus buildings.
- to take advantage of Bowdoin's extensive wireless access points, laptop users need an 802.11b-compliant wireless card.
If you are bringing a computer from home, it should have the following: 128MB, 500mhz processor, 20GB hard drive, CD-ROM, network card.
