Accessing Course Directories on the Microwave Server
Note: These directions assume you are on a campus computer and that you initially logged into the computer you are working at. You must log in as yourself for the permissions to work correctly.
If you are on a non-Bowdoin computer, and are asked to authenticate, for your username, type in yourusername@bowdoincollege.edu (e.g., jsmith@bowdoincollege.edu) and for your password, type in your email password.
From a PC:
- From the "start" menu, choose "Run..."
- The Run window will appear. In the "Open:" field, type: \\microwave\courses and click on OK.
- A new window, "courses on microwave" will open. Locate your course directory and double-click on it to open it.
If you need to map a drive to your course directory:
- Follow the steps above to access your course directory. Click on it to select it.
- From the "courses on microwave" window menu bar, choose Tools/Map Network Drive...
- The Map Network Drive window will appear. Next to "Drive:", select your preferred drive letter.
- Next to "Folder:", type: \\microwave\courses\name-of-your-course-directory (e.g., \\microwave\courses\geo267)
- Click on the check box next to "Reconnect at logon". That option allows you to maintain the connection each time you use your pc (unless you are on a lab computer. On a lab pc, you will need to map the drive every time you log on.)
- Click on the Finish button. A window for your course, through which you can access your course directory files will appear on your desktop. An icon for your course will also appear in your list of drives when you open "My Computer".
From a Mac:
- From the Finder, choose Go/Connect to Server...
- Below "Server Address:", type: smb://microwave/courses
- Click on the Connect button.
- If asked to authenticate, type in your email user name and password in the appropriate fields and click on OK.
- A "Courses" icon will appear on your desktop and a "Courses" window will open. Locate your course directory and double-click on it to open it.
If you have any question about course directories or accessing them, please email Nancy Grant (ngrant@bowdoin.edu)
