Storing and Transferring Multimedia Files

The IT Multimedia Lab in Coles Tower Room 2 West has 13 public CD burning stations that allow video, sound, images, and files to be transferred to CD-R media. Using DVD-R media and Apple's iDVD software, faculty and students can transfer analog and digital materials to DVD. (The Language Media Center provides this service as well.) Please note that all duplication must comply with U.S. and Bowdoin copyright guidelines. Both faculty and students must provide their own blank CD-Rs and DVD-Rs, which are available at the Bowdoin bookstore.

IT will provide network storage for research and course-related projects as well as other work done as part of the curriculum. Space on an IT server will be made available to faculty, who are including a web-based or multimedia component in their course, as well as their enrolled students. In addition, faculty supervising students working on independent study and honors projects can request space for their students.

In addition to server space, faculty and students working on a project as part of the curriculum will have access to removable storage devices (zip drives, CD-RW, DVD-RW, Firewire hard drives, etc.). MiniDV tapes, zip disks, and rewritable CDs are available at the Bowdoin bookstore.
