If you already have Sophos Anti-Virus installed, skip to Step 2. (If Sophos is installed, there should be a small blue shield in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen.)
1. If you do not have Sophos, you may download it from http://www.bowdoin.edu/it/agreements/index.jsp. Read the agreement and type in your Bowdoin user name and password, and click "View Software."

2. Choose the Sophos that corresponds to your graduation year (be sure to choose the Windows version).

3. Save the installer to your desktop, and wait for it to finish downloading. When it has downloaded, open the installed and let it install. This may take some time. Once the blue shield appears in the bottom right corner, the installation has finished.
1. Right-click on the blue shield and choose "Update now". Be sure to be connected to the network first.

1. Once Sophos Anti-Virus is up-to-date, right click on the blue shield again, and choose "Open Sophos Anti-Virus".

2. Wait for Sophos Anti-Virus to open and choose "Scan local disks".

This will open the "Scan local disks" window displaying the progress of the virus scan.

This may take quite some time. Once it has finished, you may close Sophos Anti-Virus. If Sophos says it found viruses that it cannot remove, please contact I.T. Student Services at 721-5050.
