Installing Entourage on your Bowdoin Macintosh Computer

IT has created a custom installation of Entourage that is configured for Bowdoin e-mail accounts on our e-mail server.

NOTE:

  • This installation will work for college-owned computers only.
  • This installation requires that you be an "administrator" of your Macintosh.
  • If Entourage is already installed on your mac, check to make sure that it is version 11.2 or later. (Open Entourage and choose Entourage >About Entourage. The version will be listed in the top right corner of the window.) If it is not version 11.2 or later, you will need to install a newer version of Entourage (follow step 1, below).
  • If you have difficulties with the installation, please contact the IT Help Desk at x3030.

Step 1. Download the Entourage software installer

  • Entourage is part of the Microsoft Office 2004 suite. You will have to install the full Office 2004 in order to obtain Entourage.
  • Choose Go > Connect to Server... from the Finder menu
  • In the Server Address: field, type smb://gravelly/software and click Connect.  If prompted, type your e-mail username and password.
  • A network share icon called "Software" will appear on your desktop. Double click on it to open.
  • Locate and open the folder called "Productivity"
  • Inside "Productivity", locate the folder called "Office 2004_Mac" and double click to open it.
  • Double click on "Office2004Complete.dmg" to "mount" it on your desktop. (Note: If you are unable to mount the disk image directly from Gravelly, drag and drop "Office2004Complete.dmg" to the desktop and mount it by double clicking on it from there.  Just remember to move it to the Trash when you are done.)

Step 2. Run the Office 2004 Installation

  • Locate the icon called " Office2004Complete" on your desktop and double click to open it.
  • Double click on "MSOffice2004Complete.mpkg" to launch the installer. You will be greeted by a Welcome! Screen. Click Continue.
  • At the next screen, "Important Information", click on Continue.
  • At the next screen, the "Software License Agreement", click on Continue and then Agree.
  • At the next screen, "Select a Destination", your primary harddrive should be selected for you already. Click Continue.
  • Read this full instruction before you follow it! At the next screen, "Easy Install on Macintosh HD", click Install for the "easy install", UNLESS you have a handheld device (e.g., Palm, Treo) that you usually sync with your desktop. If you have a handheld, please click on the Customize button, and uncheck the MS Handheld Sync option and then click Install. *If you don't uncheck this option, you will end up with doubles of all events in your calendar after the Meetingmaker data is imported into Exchange on Jan 12, 2007*.
  • At the end of the installation, you will see a message that says "The software was successfully installed". Click Close.

Step 3. Launch and Configure Entourage

  • From the Finder, choose Go > Applications > Microsoft Office 2004 > Microsoft Entourage
  • You will be prompted with a dialog box asking if you want to turn on "Automatic Notification".  You may click “Cancel” and decide the next time you launch Entourage.
  • If you are asked to enter your domain, account and password information as in the window below, click “Cancel”.
