Information Technology is always looking for ways to help promote environmentally friendly computing. In that effort IT has compiled a list of suggestions that can help you reduce energy consumption, encourage recycling and environmental awareness on campus.
Screen Savers do not Save Energy
Screen savers only save the phosphors in the monitor and can consume the same amount of electricity as when in active use. So put your computer into sleep mode, which can be accessed through the power management settings, or turn it off when you are not using it. If you would like some help changing your power settings feel free to call the IT Help Desk and we can talk you through it.
Turn off your Computer
The best way to save energy is to turn off your computer when not in use. Despite popular myth, turning off and on your computer will not cause any deterioration in your computer’s life.
Buy More Recycled Paper
Many Office supply companies provide a selection of recycled paper that can be used in laser and inkjet printers.
Recycle Ink Jet Cartridges
Think you can’t recycle those used up ink jet cartridges? Just stop on by I.T. Student Services to pick up a pre-paid envelope for your ink jet cartridges. Put your used cartridge in the envelope and send it on its’ way! It’s that easy!
