The health plan is changing from a Point of Service (POS) plan to a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO). A PPO plan gives you a greater decision making power in that you are not required to select a Primary Care Physician (PCP). A PPO plan does not require referrals from your PCP in order for you to see specialists or other health care providers. You will need to see an Anthem participating provider to get the highest level of coverage.
Prescription Drug Co-payments are increasing from $7/$25/$40 to $10/$25/$45.
Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) is increasing from $300 to $325 for employees earning $40,000 or less.
Anthem ConditionCare and ConditionCare Incentive Program is a confidential and voluntary program providing management of asthma, diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), coronary artery disease (CAD), and heart failure. When you participate in ConditionCare you are eligible for reduced co-pays for certain maintenance drugs and waived office visit co-pays for care related to one of the five conditions listed here. See the Frequently Asked Questions for additional information. Note: Bowdoin College offers the Incentive Program for all five of the chronic conditions listed here.
New Walk-In Clinic/Urgent Care Benefit When you go to an Anthem designated Walk-In Clinic for urgent care services, you will pay the $30 specialist co-payment. See the Benefits Summary for more information.
Mental Health and Substance Abuse Coverage is increasing as required by the Federal Mental Health Parity Act. Current coverage for non-listed mental health services limits inpatient services to 31 days per year and outpatient services to 40 visits per calendar year. These limits will be removed beginning January 1, 2010. Please note, the coverage will continue to be managed by Anthem Behavioral Health. Please scroll down to page 3 of the Benefits Summary.
Dependent Eligibility There is a new Federal law regarding dependent coverage for children called "Michelle's Law." Bowdoin College's health plan already provides coverage as required by this law.
