Long Term Disability Insurance Plan

  • Summary Plan Description

WHO IS ELIGIBLE

Regular employees working 30 or more hours per week including academic year employees, and all full-time and part-time faculty working at least 50% of the normal course load are eligible for Long Term Disability insurance.

WHEN COVERAGE BEGINS

Coverage begins the day after you complete one month of continuous employment in which you are actively at work.

SUMMARY OF COVERAGE PROVISIONS

If you are unable to work due to illness or an accident (not work-related), once the 6 month elimination period is complete, the plan pays 60% of your regular annual earnings (up to a maximum of $114,000). The maximum benefit period for employees under age 60 is to age 65, but not less than 60 months. See enclosed benefit schedule in the Summary Plan Description for disabilities that begin after age 60.

COST

The College pays 100% of the cost of the plan for all eligible employees.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

This benefit provides an additional level of insurance for your income in the event that you are unable to work and sick time (and for non-exempt staff, short term disability benefits) have been exhausted. Employees with a serious illness or accident should be on a medical leave of absence from the point when it is clear that an absence will exceed two weeks. The Human Resources Department will work with you near the end of the six-month elimination period to complete a long term disability application.
