BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's volleyball team claimed the 2008 CBB Championship with a Saturday sweep of rivals Bates and Colby to push their record to 6-1 for the first time since 2003.
The Polar Bears bounced Bates 3-0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-17) and knocked off Colby 3-1 (25-18, 28-26, 23-25, 25-15) to earn the crown. Colby defeated Bates 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-19) in the other match of the day.
Bowdoin eased past Bates thanks to 12 kills from Kristin Hanczor and nine from Gillian Page. Jenna Diggs sparked the attack with 35 assists while Anna Noucas' stellar defense produced a match-high 13 digs. Tess Dokus led Bates with six kills.
Bowdoin claimed game one against Colby before rallying from a 24-19 deficit to take game two, 28-26. The Mules claimed game three 25-23 before Bowdoin closed out the match with a flourish in game four, 25-15. Hanczor notched 16 kills to go with Diggs' 43 assists. Noucas was outstanding, making 23 digs defensively for the Polar Bears. Jenny Lawrence led the Mules with 29 assists and 16 digs.
