BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's rugby team compiled one of the most impressive performances in team history in a 79-0 win over the University of Maine-Farmington on Saturday. Bowdoin improves to 5-1 overall this season and 2-0 in NERFU play.
Bowdoin led 43-0 at intermission thanks to tries from six different players. Danielle Willey scored a pair of tries and Becky Stevens converted on four scores to lead the Polar Bears. Stevens added another second-half score and three conversions in the second half. Onyi Esonu also collected a pair of tries as Bowdoin accumulated 36 more points to round out the contest.
The Polar Bear defense was exceptional Saturday. The Bowdoin backline played a smart game, reading the defense well. Good tactical kicks by Maria Koenigs moved the ball downfield and putting pressure on UMF's fullback. Bowdoin will return to action next Saturday with a key NERFU game at the University of New Hampshire.
