BRUNSWICK, Maine - The top-ranked Bowdoin College field hockey team posted their third straight shutout to open the 2008 campaign, easing past Husson 5-0 on Wednesday evening. The Polar Bears (3-0) will play at Wesleyan this Saturday in their next contest. Husson drops to 0-1 this season.
Bowdoin got started early as McNamara scored 3:55 into the game. She assisted on the Polar Bears next goal setting up Madeleine McQueeney making it 2-0 before Kate Gormley found herself all alone in front of the net to make it 3-0 at the half.
Gormley set up McNamara five minutes into the second half and Tamlyn Frederick made a great run to the net for Bowdoin's final goal. Emileigh Mercer (zero saves) and Emily Neilson (one save) split time in net for the Polar Bears. The Polar Bears controlled play throughout the game holding a 26-1 shot advantage and 22-0 on corners.
