NEW LONDON, Conn. - Ellery Gould netted two goals Saturday, leading Bowdoin College (5-1-3, 3-1-2) to a 4-1 victory at Connecticut College (4-5, 0-5) in NESCAC women's soccer action played on Tempel Green. Sophomore Rebecca Silva chipped in with a goal and an assist for the Polar Bears, who extended their unbeaten streak to five games with Saturday's triumph.
The Polar Bears grabbed an early lead in the eighth minute of play. Dana Riker was able to control Silva's corner and score, putting the visitors on top 1-0. Gould doubled the lead in the 14th minute, breaking free in a one-on-one situation for her sixth goal of the season.
With 15:07 to play in the half, Palatino induced a turnover, prying the ball away from the Bowdoin keeper. Palatino's score halved the visitors lead and it was a 2-1 contest. But the Polar Bears answered in the 41st minute. Gould scored on a deep blast from about 25 yards out and the visitors carried a 3-1 lead into the break.
Silva added an insurance goal in the 60th minute of action and the visitors were able to keep the Camels off the scoreboard, securing the 4-1 victory. The Camels and Polar Bears were an even 18-to-18 in shots but Bowdoin enjoyed a sizable 8-to-3 advantage in corner kicks.
