HARTFORD, Conn. - Trinity starter Tim Kiely tossed a four-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts and no walks and sophomore OF James Wood hit a solo home run in the sixth inning to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 1-0 win over the visiting Bowdoin College Polar Bears in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) East Division opener for both teams this afternoon.
Trinity, ranked No. 12 in the nation, posted its second straight 1-0 victory to stay perfect for the season at 13-0, while the Polar Bears drop to 8-4 with their first loss in five games. The teams will complete their three-game series tomorrow with a noon doubleheader.
Wood finished 2-for-4, while senior SS Tom DiBenedetto and sophomore OF Matt Sullivan each had two hits for the Bantams. Bowdoin sophomore Carter Butland allowed seven hits and fanned five in seven innings on the mound in a losing effort.
