BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College women's tennis players Kristen Raymond (Dover, Mass.) and Sarah D'Elia (Fairfield, Conn.) have earned post-season awards handed out by the New England Small College Athletic Conference. Raymond was named a First-Team performer in Singles and Doubles while D'Elia netted First-Team doubles and Second-Team singles recognition.
Raymond, who won the New England Women's Invitational Tennis Tournament last fall, has posted one of the most impressive campaigns in Bowdoin women's tennis history. She racked up an incredible 23-4 record in singles play, including 15 straight wins during the season. Earlier this week, she was a selected as one of just 32 participants at the NCAA Division III Individual Championships at Gustavus Adolphus College on May 16-18. She is currently ranked sixth in the Northeast ITA Rankings.
Raymond teamed with D'Elia as Bowdoin's top doubles squad in 2008, posting a 10-7 mark overall to garner First-Team All-Conference. The duo is ranked seventh in the latest ITA Northeast poll. D'Elia, who played at both #1 and #2 singles this spring, earned Second-Team recognition for her individual play as well. She is 9-8 overall this season and ranked 12th in the Northeast.
The duo will pace the women's tennis team (12-7) at the NCAA Regional this weekend in Amherst, Mass. Bowdoin will face the winner of Friday's Bridgewater State-Vassar match at 2:00 p.m.
