BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College men's lacrosse player Mike Giordano (Washington, D.C.) has been named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Player of the Week. A senior captain on this year's team, Giordano led the Polar Bears to a pair of wins last week. Bowdoin is 6-3 overall this season and is ranked 19th in the latest USILA poll.
Giordano led the Polar Bears in scoring with seven goals in two contests. Tuesday afternoon against Springfield, Giordano had three goals, including what proved to be the decisive goal in a 9-8 win. On Saturday, Giordano scored a game-high four goals in a 10-8 decision over Trinity. Giordano is second for Bowdoin in scoring with a team-high 17 goals and four assists for 21 points though nine games.
For the first time since beginning the season, Bowdoin has no weekday games and will return to action on Saturday with a key NESCAC contest at Tufts University. The Jumbos began the year ranked among the top ten teams in Division III, but struggled to a 3-3 start. Since then, Tufts has rolled off three straight wins and will host the Polar Bears at 1:00 p.m. Saturday.
