BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin women's volleyball coach Karen Corey has been chosen as the Assistant Coach to the All-Navy Women's Volleyball team. The All-Navy Sports Program is a national sports program conducted under the Armed Forces Sports Program.
The program is designed to promote goodwill and a positive image among the Armed Services through sports and provide a highly competitive sports program in which military athletes can participate in both national and international competitions.
The team members will be selected from active duty personnel, including reservists on active duty status. Corey will coach the team in a three week training camp held at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. The team will then compete at the USA Volleyball National Championships in Atlanta, Georgia, and the Armed Forces Championships at Cherry Point, North Carolina.
Corey will assist Head Coach, Mike Schwob, who has served as the Head Women's Coach at the Naval Academy for 12 years. Corey, a Naval Academy graduate, was a 4 year varsity team member. She earned Patriot League Second Team All Conference both her junior and senior years and was named team MVP her senior year. Corey competed for the All-Navy Volleyball program in 1998 and 1999.
"I am thrilled to have this opportunity to work with the All-Navy program and the high caliber Navy athletes," according to Corey. "Mike is a fantastic coach and I hope to learn a lot from him, while bringing many of my own experiences to the team. It will be amazing to coach and prepare the team for two national championship competitions!'
