BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College goaltender Chris Rossi has been named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Men's Hockey Player of the Week. Rossi, a sophomore netminder from Barrington, Rhode Island, was oustanding as the Polar Bears took over sole possession of first place in the conference standings heading into the final weekend of the regular season.
Rossi allowed just one goal over two wins last weekend for the Polar Bears. Friday evening, Rossi needed only 23 saves during a 4-0 win at Wesleyan, Bowdoin?s first shutout of the season. Saturday afternoon against Trinity, Rossi back-boned the Polar Bear defense by turning aside 36 shots in a 7-1 victory. The sophomore, who earned Second-Team All-NESCAC selection last year, has been hot of late, posting a 1.00 GAA and a .962 save percentage in his last three outings- all victories. He is 8-2-0 overall this season.
Bowdoin is ranked 11th in the latest Division III National Poll and have earned a first-round home game in the conference tournament that begins on Saturday, March 1. Multiple scenarios could result in Bowdoin earning the top seed, the easiest of which involves the Polar Bears earning three points (one win, one tie) against St. Michael's and Norwich this weekend.
