BRUNSWICK, Maine - For the second time this season, Bowdoin College first-year Ryan Leary (Marblehead, Mass.) has been named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Men's Ice Hockey Player of the Week. Leary is the leading goal scoring in Division III hockey entering play this week, averaging 1.57 goals per contest for the Polar Bears, who are ranked 15th in the latest USCHO.com National Poll.
Leary earned MVP honors at the Salem State Holiday Classic on December 27-28 to net the NESCAC's weekly award. He scored three goals in two games, including a pair in the championship tilt against the host Vikings. The three goals extended Leary's scoring streak to five games as the rookie stands with 11 goals and one assist this season, seven tallies shy of the school's single-season record for a first-year. Earlier this season, Leary garnered Player of the Week honors following a school- record six goals in a victory over Skidmore on December 1.
Bowdoin will return to action this weekend when they host New England College (7:00 p.m. Friday) and Saint Anselm (4:00 p.m. Saturday). The Polar Bears are 7-2-0 this season.
