BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College first-year forward Ryan Leary (Marblehead, Mass.) has been named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Player of the Week. Leary, who is the first Polar Bear to claim the honor this season, set the school's single-game scoring record in Saturday's win over Skidmore.
A day after posting an assist in a 4-3 win over Castleton, Leary was unconscious in Saturday's 10-5 thumping of Skidmore. He netted his first six collegiate goals, including a natural hat-trick in a 3:28 span in the opening period. The six goals broke the Bowdoin record of five, formerly held by Dick Donovan '73 and Steve Ilkos '88.
Bowdoin (4-1-0) has won four-straight games and rose to 12th in the latest USCHO.com national rankings released on Monday. The Polar Bears will close out their first semester slate with a home-and-home against arch-rival Colby this Friday and Saturday. Friday's game is at Colby while Saturday's contest (7:00 p.m.) at Dayton Arena will be carried live on the internet at the address below:
