BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College senior Nick Figueiredo (Wilmington, Mass.) has been named as the New England Small College Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week. Figueiredo led the Polar Bears to a pair of victories last week. Bowdoin (9-3-1) will host Wesleyan (9-4-0) in their regular season finale on Saturday, October 27.
Figueiredo tallied two goals - both game-winners - and added in two assists en route to becoming the all-time goal-scoring leader at Bowdoin as the Polar Bears went 2- 0 with victories over Trinity and Babson. Figueiredo snapped a 1-1 tie in the 85th minute on Saturday at Trinity before having a hand in all three goals in a 3-0 win over Babson, scoring the game's first goal while assisting on the two other Polar Bear tallies. Figueiredo now has a program-best 33 career goals, breaking the 35-year old mark set by Gima Asmerom '73 and subsequently tied by David Bulow '02 and Andrew Russo '06.
The Polar Bears will play in the first-round of the NESCAC Tournament on Sunday, October 28 with their opponent and gametime to be determined. Fourth-place Bowdoin can clinch a first-round home game with a victory over fifth-place Wesleyan on Saturday.
