BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's tennis team's top doubles pairing of Sam Bitetti (Norwell, Mass.) and Garrett Gates (Fairway, Kansas) have earned All-American recognition courtesy of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Bitetti, a graduating senior, and Gates, a senior-to-be, qualified for the NCAA Championship this past spring.
As a pairing, Bitetti and Gates posted a 10-2 mark in 2006-07, capturing First-Team All-New England Small College Athletic Conference honors. The duo played at the #1 position in all 12 of their matches, finishing their season as the #2 doubles pairing in New England and the #10 team nationally.
The two led Bowdoin to an outstanding campaign, as the squad posted a 16-5 mark and reached the Second-Round of the NCAA Team Championship. At the Individual National Championship, Bitetti and Gates dropped their First-Round match to the eventual Division III champions from UC-Santa Cruz, Matt Seeberger and Max Ortiz.
