BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College softball players Jayme Woogerd (Seattle, Wash.) and Julia Jacobs (Ridgewood, N.J.) have earned New England Small College Athletic Conference Second-Team honors in All-League selections announced late last week.
Woogerd closed out one of the most successful careers in school history with an outstanding senior campaign. Bowdoin's first-baseman led the team in several offensive categories, including batting average (.358), runs scored (34), hits (49) and triples (5). For her career, the Seattle, Washington native set the school record for runs scored (94), while finishing second all-time in hits (157) and stolen bases (32).
Rookie pitcher Julia Jacobs enjoyed an outstanding rookie season, tying the school record with teammate Karen Reni for wins in a season (13) after posting a 13-6 record with a 2.21 earned-run-average. She struck out 115 batters in 123.2 innings of work while holding opposing hitters to just a .225 batting average. She was particularly outstanding down the stretch for the Polar Bears, as she earned a 6-2 record in her final 10 appearances of the season with a microscopic 1.83 ERA.
The Polar Bears finished the winningest season in program history in 2007 with a record of 26-15.
