BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College third-baseman Nick Lawler (Auburn, Maine) has been named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Player of the Week. The Polar Bears took two of three games in an important Eastern Division series against Trinity College last weekend, improving to 7-6 this season.
Lawler hit .462 from the dish against the Bantams to lift his season average to .340. The senior had four doubles and collected 10 total bases in the three games, reaching base six times in 13 at-bats. Lawler also scored four runs and killed a Trinity rally during Saturday's first game, cutting down a runner at the plate with a defensive gem in an eventual 6-4 victory.
Bowdoin's all-time leader in hit-by-pitches (37), Lawler recently set the school record for doubles in a career (44). In his time as a Polar Bear, the senior has hit for a .316 average.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Tuesday with a scheduled game at Southern Maine. With poor weather forecasted for the week, continue to check the Bowdoin website for the latest scheduling updates.
