Reni Named Softball Pitcher of Week

BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College sophomore pitcher Karen Reni (Ashland, Mass.) has been named the Softball Pitcher of the Week for the New England Small College Athletic Conference. Reni's performance led the Polar Bears to an unprecedented 14-3 record on their spring break trip to Florida.

In nine appearaces during Bowdoin's southern swing, Reni was outstanding, posting an 8-1 record overall. In 62 innings pitched, Reni whiffed 60 batters, allowed just 40 hits and eight earned runs on her way to a 1.16 earned run average. Opposing batters connected at a miniscule .175 clip, including just five extra-base hits. As a rookie a year ago, Reni tied the school record for wins in a season (12).

Bowdoin, as a team, is already within two victories of equalling last year's win total of 16. The Polar Bears will return to action this weekend with a three-game series at Trinity on Friday and Saturday.
