BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College women's basketball player Julia Loonin (New York, N.Y.) was recognized as the New England Small College Athletic Conference Player of the Week as the Polar Bears' won their seventh-straight Conference Championship. Bowdoin (26-1) is ranked first in the latest national poll and will host Mount Holyoke in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
For the second-straight season, Loonin raised her game in the NESCAC Semifinals and Title game to push the Polar Bears to a championship. On Saturday against Williams, Loonin was the spark to a second-half surge, hitting a trio of three-pointers in the decisive run and finishing with 12 points. She closed the weekend on Sunday with 13 points against Tufts, including eight points during a crucial second half run for Bowdoin. Over the two games, Loonin averaged 12.5 points and went 5-for-8 from behind the arc (.625) for the Polar Bears.
Loonin, who ranks fifth all-time at Bowdoin with 98 career three-pointers, is averaging 10.4 points per game on 47% shooting from beyond the three-point arc in Bowdoin's last five games.
