BRUNSWICK, Maine - Following a stellar week in which she led the Polar Bears to a trio of victories, Bowdoin College senior Eileen Flaherty (Fairfield, Conn.) has been named the NESCAC's Player of the Week. Flaherty leads the NESCAC in scoring at 18.8 points per game this season as Bowdoin (11-0) is ranked first in the D3Hoops.com National Poll.
Flaherty had an impressive week as she helped the Polar Bears defeat a pair of unbeaten teams as part of a 3-0 stretch. She captured MVP honors at the Springfield College/Naismith Classic Tournament by averaging 17 points and seven rebounds in wins over Union and previously-unbeaten Norwich. Flaherty followed it up with a 23-point, nine-rebound effort in a victory over undefeated Emmanuel on Saturday that included a crucial five points in the closing moments to seal the win. For the week, Bowdoin's captain collected 18.7 points, 7.7 rebounds while connecting on 21-22 from the free-throw line.
Flaherty has 1,499 points for her career, standing third all-time at Bowdoin while her 617 rebounds rank eighth in school history. She is just the fifth player in school history to surpass 1,000 points and 500 boards for a career. Bowdoin returns to action with a busy upcoming week, at Husson on Tuesday, at Maine-Farmington on Wednesday and then hosting a NESCAC weekend against Williams (Friday) and Middlebury (Saturday).
