Flaherty Named NESCAC Player of the Week

BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College senior forward Eileen Flaherty (Fairfield, Conn.) has been honored as the NESCAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week for her play in a trio of Polar Bear wins last week. It marks the fourth time in her career that Bowdoin's senior captain has earned the honor.

Flaherty was named MVP of the Red Hawk/Pioneer Classic in New Jersey last weekend, capping off a stellar week. She averaged 20.0 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game as Bowdoin improved to 4-0 with dominating wins over the University of New England, William Paterson and Montclair State. Flaherty was particularly outstanding against the New Jersey schools, scoring 26 and 22 points, respectively, while connecting on 65% of her shots for the week.

Bowdoin is ranked second in the latest National Poll and will host sixth-ranked Southern Maine at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday in Brunswick. Flaherty is closing in on the program's all-time scoring record, and currently boasts 1,370 career points to stand fourth in school history. She is exactly 300 points shy of Laura Schultz's record of 1,670.
