Bowdoin Hockey Teams Ranked Third in Nation

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's and women's ice hockey teams both sit third in the latest national polls released today by U.S. College Hockey Online. The Polar Bear men are the only unbeaten team in any division of collegiate hockey, at 15-0-3, while the women sit at 15-2 on the season.

The women's team remains at third this week after falling for only the second time this season, last Tuesday at Division-I Boston College, 4-1. Junior Shelly Chessie (Fredericton, N.B.) leads the team in scoring with 31 points, good enough for second in the NESCAC. The Polar Bears will enter the homestretch of the regular season on Wednesday when they host in-state rival Southern Maine. Bowdoin will then host Concordia and the North American Hockey Academy team on Friday and Saturday.

The men's team continues their incredible roll, as their winning streak now sits at six games since tying top-ranked Middlebury on January 12. This past weekend, Bowdoin defeated then-fifth ranked Norwich at Dayton Arena, 3-1, before throttling St. Michael's on Saturday, 8-1. Senior co-captain Mike Carosi (Warwick, R.I.) leads the NESCAC in scoring with 39 points on the season. The Polar Bears will take to the road at Southern Maine on Friday and at Salem State on Saturday before returning home next Tuesday in a critical matchup against arch-rival Colby.
