Women's Hoops Ranked Second in Preseason

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's basketball team is ranked second in the nation in the Preseason National Poll released by The Polar Bears, who finished with a 27-3 record in 2005-06, are the only team in Division III Women's Basketball to reach the 'Elite Eight' in each of the past five seasons.

In addition to being ranked second in the preseason poll, Bowdoin currently enjoys a pair of lengthy streaks heading into the 2006-07 season. The Polar Bears have the longest current streak of being ranked in the Top-10 of the poll, a run of 75 straight weeks. It is the longest streak by any team in the history of the rankings.

In addition, Bowdoin has won a New England-record 70 consecutive home games dating back to 2001, and have claimed six-straight NESCAC Championships. The Polar Bears return four of five starters from last year's team, including First-Team All-American Eileen Flaherty.

Bowdoin opens their new season on November 18 at home against Smith College.
