BRUNSWICK, Maine - The 2006 NESCAC Champion Bowdoin College field hockey team has earned a first-round bye and the right to host an NCAA Regional next Saturday and Sunday, November 11-12 at Ryan Field in Brunswick.
Bowdoin will face the winner of Wednesday's first-round game between Keene State (18-4) and Wellesley College (15-4). The other two teams in the Regional will be NESCAC runner-up Middlebury (14-3), and the victor of Wednesday's first-round contest between Eastern (17-4) and William Smith College (16-3). Second-round games are scheduled for Saturday, November 11 with the advancing teams playing on Sunday, November 12.
The team advancing out of the Regional will earn a spot in the NCAA Semifinals on November 17 at William Smith College in Geneva, N.Y.
The Polar Bears (15-1) are ranked fifth in the latest national poll and will be hosting a Regional for the second straight season. Bowdoin hosted an NCAA Regional in 2005 en route to the team's first-ever appearance in the Final Four.
Ryan Field has been particularly difficult for opponents over the past few seasons. Bowdoin has the second-longest home-field winning streak in Division III, having won 20 consecutive home games dating back to October of 2004.
Gametimes and ticket information will be available later this week.
