BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College has announced the hiring of former Providence College standout Michael Brown as an assistant coach for the 2006-07 men's basketball team. Brown replaces Mark Gilbride, who accepted a position at Amherst College this summer.
Brown was a member of the 1994 Big East Championship squad at Providence and has spent the last ten seasons playing professionally overseas. His basketball travels have included playing stints in China, Great Britain and Greece. While playing for the Brighton Bears of the British Basketball League, Brown was on a pair of BBL Championship-winning teams. The last two years, Brown has played for AGE Halkidas in Greece, where he was named to the league's All-Bosman team in 2004-05.
Brown has extensive experience with some of the top coaches in basketball, having worked alongside Rick Barnes, Pete Gillen, Louis Orr and Dave Gavitt, among others. A resident of Orlando, Florida, Brown is a native of Central New York and a graduate of Cicero-North Syracuse High School. He graduated from Providence College in 1996 with a degree in Accounting.
