BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College senior co-captain Ricky Leclerc (Manchester, N.H.) has been named as the New England Small College Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week for his efforts in a Polar Bear sweep of Middlebury last Saturday.
Bowdoin is ranked 23rd in the latest national poll and will host the NESCAC Baseball Tournament beginning this Friday, May 12. The Polar Bears play Williams in Game One of the Tournament at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The Polar Bears have set the school's single-season record for victories and currently stand 27-6-1.
Leclerc stole the show on Senior Day in Brunswick, hitting a pair of home runs and earning a win on the mound to help lift Bowdoin to a sweep over Middlebury on Saturday. Leclerc reached base in six of his seven at-bats, hitting a solo homer and scoring three runs in game one of the twinbill. During game two, Leclerc went 2-for-3 with a two-run shot while tossing seven innings from the mound, allowing one earned run on five hits and three strikeouts.
Leclerc is currently batting .348 this season with a team-leading six home runs and has tied the school's single-season mark 46 runs-batted-in. For his career, Leclerc has 16 home runs, ranking fourth all-time at Bowdoin. His 108 career RBI's stand third all-time at the school, while his 14 career pitching wins stand fifth on the school's career list.
