Tennis Teams Make NCAA Tournament

COMPLETE BRACKETS

BRUNSWICK, Maine - Both Bowdoin College tennis teams have qualified for NCAA Tournaments in pairings released on Tuesday. The men's team will play in the Northeast Regional hosted by Williamstown, Massachusetts this weekend, while the women's team will play in a Regional in Amherst, Massachusetts. Action begins Saturday when the Polar Bear men will play Trinity, while the women face Tufts.

For the seventh straight season, the men's squad has earned an NCAA bid, and the Polar Bears draw Trinity at 3:00 p.m. Saturday in a rematch of the 2005 NCAA Regional in Brunswick. Bowdoin (7-10 overall, 7-6 vs. Division III) beat the Bantams in the first-round of the tournament last year, 4-3, but fell to Trinity earlier this season in a 6-1 decision. The winner of Saturday's match will face the victor of the Bates/Williams first-round match for a berth in the NCAA Championship weekend on May 17-22.

The women's bracket looks very familiar, as it is identical to the NESCAC Tournament from a week ago. The women (8-9, 8-6 vs. Division III) will play Tufts on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the first-round of the tournament, with the winner advancing to play Amherst at noon on Sunday for a bid to the NCAA Championship. Last weekend, Bowdoin beat Tufts in the first-round of the NESCAC Championship, 6-3, before falling to Amherst 8-1 in the semifinals.
