BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin junior shortstop Chris McCann (Hopkinton, Mass.) has been tabbed as the Co-Baseball Player of the Week by the New England Small College Athletic Conference. McCann led Bowdoin to a perfect 4-0 week and paced the Polar Bears throughout their school-record 11 straight victories this month. The Polar Bears (21-5-1) are ranked third in the latest New England Regional poll and will host Husson on Wednesday afternoon.
The Polar Bears' leadoff hitter sparked the squad by posting a .565 batting average (13-23), a team-high nine runs scored, and on-base-percentage of .600 last week. In Bowdoin's 11-game win streak, McCann batted a team-best .468 with 18 runs, 12 RBI's and is a perfect 9-for-9 in stolen base attempts. McCann, who is tied for the team lead with a .435 batting average this year, is closing in on the school's single-season hit record. He has 50 hits this season, and is seven shy of the school mark of 57 held by Dave DeCew '99.
