BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College junior forward Eileen Flaherty (Fairfield, Conn.) has earned First-Team All-American status by both the WBCA and D3Hoops.com in selections announced this weekend. In addition, senior Justine Pouravelis (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) was named a Fourth-Team All-American by D3Hoops.com. Bowdoin finished their season with a record of 27-3, reaching the 'Elite 8' of the NCAA Division III Tournament for the fifth straight year.
Flaherty was Bowdoin's leading scorer in 2005-06, averaging 16.7 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Flaherty's 502 points this season are a new single-season record at Bowdoin, eclipsing the mark held by Laura Schultz '96 (460 points). After three seasons, she has 1,292 points- 378 shy of the school's career points mark held by Schultz. The junior from Fairfield, Connecticut has been a First-Team All-NESCAC Selection every year at Bowdoin, and also grabbed First-Team All-New England from the New England Women's Basketball Coaches Association and D3Hoops.com.
Pouravelis was named as a Fourth-Team All-American selection by D3Hoops.com following the best season of her career. The senior forward averaged 9.8 points and 8.2 rebounds in 2005-06, capping off a stellar career that saw her finish with 904 points and 794 rebounds. A three-time NESCAC Defensive Player of the Year, Pouravelis finishes her career at Bowdoin first in blocks (209), third in steals (247), third in rebounds (794), and seventh in assists (198) she was named Second-Team All-New England by NEWBA and D3Hoops.com and earned First-Team All-NESCAC status this season.
