BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College senior goaltender George Papachristopoulos (Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Que.) has been named the NESCAC's Men's Ice Hockey Player of the Week for his efforts in a pair of Polar Bear wins last weekend. Bowdoin, ranked 14th in the latest national poll, is the third seed for the NESCAC Tournament which begins this Saturday. The Polar Bears (15-6-3) will host Amherst at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday at Dayton Arena for a berth in the NESCAC Semifinals.
Papachristopoulos became the first NESCAC goaltender this season to post back-to-back shutouts during a weekend series, blanking nationally-ranked Norwich on Friday with 41 saves before turning aside 21 more in a win over St. Michael's on Saturday. In the process, Bowdoin's senior netminder became the school's single-season record-holder with five shutouts this year. He has not allowed a goal in his last 137:48 between the pipes, the fourth-longest streak in school history.
Tickets for Saturday's hockey doubleheader will be $5 for adults, $2 for children and free to Bowdoin students with an ID. Tickets will be available at the door beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 25- one hour prior to the women's game at 1:00 p.m. against Connecticut College.
