BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College women's soccer player Ann Zeigler (Washington, D.C.) has been named the NESCAC's Women's Soccer Player of the Week for her efforts in a pair of Bowdoin victories last week. The Polar Bears (10-4-1) are in the NESCAC Semifinals for the fifth straight season and will play Bates at Tufts University on Saturday. Gametimes will be announced on Tuesday.
Zeigler was dominant offensively for the Polar Bears, who had not scored more than three goals in any game this season until Saturday. Zeigler collected a hat trick in a 5-0 win over Wesleyan, clinching the third spot in the Tournament for Bowdoin. She followed it up with a one-goal, one-assist effort in a 5-1 first-round victory over Middlebury on Sunday. The sophomore from Washington, D.C. collected the game-winning tally in both contests. Zeigler has 10 goals this season, tied for seventh-most all-time at Bowdoin for a single season. Her 24 points are tied for eighth-most in a single year by a Polar Bear.
Bowdoin is the only school that has reached the NESCAC Semifinals in every season that the Tournament has existed, and will look to turn the tables on the Bobcats, who beat the Polar Bears 1-0 in Lewiston on September 20. Bowdoin's 10 wins this season marks the 12th time in the last 14th seasons that the squad has reached double digits in victories.
