Field Hockey Ranked Eighth in Nation

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College field hockey team is the only undefeated squad in Division III and is ranked eighth in the latest National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll released Tuesday. The Polar Bears (8-0) are off to their best start since 1992 and return to action on Wednesday evening at Bates.

The Polar Bears received two first-place votes in the latest poll and rose two spots after being ranked 10th in the nation last week. The last time Bowdoin was ranked in the top-ten in the national poll was in September of 2003.

Bowdoin leads the NESCAC in scoring this season, averaging 2.77 goals per contest, and is also the top defensive squad in the league, allowing just 0.58 goals per game. The Polar Bears have allowed just five goals all season and goalkeeper Kate Leonard leads the conference in goals-against-average (0.61). A balanced scoring attack has paced the team, with first-year Lindsay McNamara leading the team and the conference with eight goals this season.

After traveling to Lewiston on Wednesday, Bowdoin will return home on Saturday against Connecticut College at 2:30 p.m.
