BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College goaltender Kate Leonard (Eliot, Maine) has been named the NESCAC field hockey Player of the Week for her performance in the Polar Bears' 2-1 victory over Williams Saturday.
Leonard made 10 saves in regulation and overtime and then swept aside numerous Eph penalty-shootout efforts to lift Bowdoin to victory. The junior netminder- who earned a first-team All-NESCAC selection last season- continues to rise the Bowdoin career lists, including a 0.70 career goals-against-average that ranks third all-time at the school. This season, she stands first in the NESCAC in both goals-against-average (0.61) and save percentage (.893).
The Polar Bears, ranked 15th in the latest national poll, will look to rise in the rankings this week thanks to their defeat of #13 Williams. Bowdoin's tough schedule continues this weekend with matches at Amherst and Middlebury.
