BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College baseball players Jared Lemieux (Readfield, Maine) and Ricky Leclerc (Manchester, N.H.) have been chosen for All-NESCAC Conference honors in selections announced on Wednesday. Both juniors, Lemieux was tabbed as a first-team choice while Leclerc received second-team honors.
Centerfielder Lemieux grabbed first-team honors for the second consecutive season. The 2003 NESCAC Rookie of the Year led Bowdoin with a .417 batting average, 13 stolen bases and a .576 on-base percentage in 2005. In addition, his 31 walks this year set a new Bowdoin single-season record. The Maranacook graduate continues to climb up the career lists in numerous categories, ranking fourth in career steals (19) and home runs (12), while standing fifth in career runs (100), hits (133) and total bases (202).
Leclerc had an oustanding season on the mound and at the plate for Bowdoin in 2005. He ranked second on the team with four victories this year, posting a 2.91 ERA and 44 strikeouts in 43.1 innings pitched. Opponents could only muster a .212 batting average against the righthander this year. On April 23, Leclerc tossed a rain-shortened no-hitter against Williams College. At the plate, Leclerc batted .331 and pounded out a team-high 33 runs batted in and was second on the squad with five roundtrippers.
Bowdoin finished the season with a record of 20-14, the second straight season the Polar Bears reached the 20-victory plateau.
