BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College junior shortstop Danielle Chagnon (Windsor Locks, Conn.) was named first-team All-NESCAC while sophomore pitcher Emily Nelson (Pasadena, Calif.) was chosen for the second-team in selections announced on Thursday afternoon. The Polar Bears finished the season with a record of 19-10.
Chagnon was the offensive spark for Bowdoin this season, while also playing stellar defense at shortstop for the Polar Bears. She led the squad in batting average (.384), runs batted in (32), home runs (6). After just three seasons, her 96 career hits rank fifth all-time at the school, her 10 round-trippers place her second in school history while her 16 career doubles place her fourth.
Emily Nelson followed up a stellar rookie campaign with a solid sophomore effort. She became the school's all-time leader in strikeouts in 2005, whiffing 141 batters to set a new single-season record and up her career total to an astonishing 279 in 231 innings pitched. Her 12 victories equaled the single-season record that she tied last year, and gave her 24 career wins- just six behind the school's career wins record.
