BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College women's lacrosse players Colleen McDonald, Kendall Cox and Brigid Burke were named as All-NESCAC selections on Thursday afternoon. McDonald and Cox were named to the league's first-team, while Burke grabbed a second-team choice. The Polar Bears (14-3) will play in an NCAA Regional Semifinal Saturday against Stevens Institute in Middlebury, Vt.
McDonald (Greenfield, Mass.) led the Polar Bears in scoring this season, tallying 37 goals and 16 assists this season. McDonald, a senior co-captain, was a second-team All-NESCAC selection last year and posted a team-high six goals in a victory at Bates on April 27.
Cox (Guilford, Conn.), a third-team All-American last year, repeats as a first-team All-NESCAC selection in 2005. Playing more minutes than any other NESCAC goalie (1,018), Cox posted a goals-against average of 7.24 (third in the conference), stopping 143 shots for a .538 save percentage (third in NESCAC).
Brigid Burke (Beverly, Mass.) earns a second-team nod following an outstanding season for the Bowdoin defense. Bowdoin ranked second in the conference in defensive scoring- thanks in great part to the senior. Burke was second on the team in groundballs (36) and caused turnovers (21) in 2005.
Bowdoin's 14 wins this season is one win shy of the school's single-season mark of 15 set in 1986.
