Women's Hoops Wins Record Eleventh Straight

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's basketball team, ranked fifth in the latest national poll, defeated Wesleyan University this evening in their NESCAC-opener. With the victory, the Polar Bears tied the school record for consecutive wins (11) and continue the program's best-ever start to a season (11-0). The Cardinals fall to 10-4 with the loss.

A tightly-played first half saw both teams combine for 27 tournovers. Bowdoin stretched the lead to double-digits briefly before Wesleyan closed to 26-20 at the intermission. The decisive stretch in the game occurred in the first five minutes after halftime, as the Polar Bears held the Cardinals scoreless for the first 5:50 of the second half. Bowdoin ripped off a 10-0 run during that span, putting the game away.

Lora Trenkle had 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting for Bowdoin, while Kristi Royer scored 13 and added six steals in the victory. Nora Bowman and Kamica Lewis both scored a dozen for Wesleyan.
