BRUNSWICK, Maine - For the second time in three weeks, Bowdoin's Emily Nelson has grabbed NESCAC Player of the Week Honors. The sophomore pitcher from Pasadena, California had another stellar week as the Polar Bears improved their best-ever start to 15-4 on the season.
Nelson continued to dominate on the diamond, earning three victories and a save last week as Bowdoin went 4-1. Against Trinity, she picked up a win with 14 strikeouts, allowing only three hits in a 2-1 victory. In a doubleheader against Wesleyan, she earned wins in both games, including a nine-inning shutout in which she struck out six and allowed just two hits. In 23 innings, Nelson whiffed 34 batters.
Already the school's single-season strikeout record holder, Nelson (8-2 this season) is creeping up on the school's career strikeouts list. Her 223 career K's are second all-time at Bowdoin, just nine behind Erin Hanley's '04 career mark. Bowdoin will return to action Wednesday afternoon at Colby.
