BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College sophomore pitcher Emily Nelson has earned ECAC New England and NESCAC Player of the Week honors for her efforts in four games last week. The Polar Bears are off to the best start in school history, going 11-3 on their recent spring break trip to Florida.
Nelson was dominant last week, tossing four complete-game shutouts en route to four Bowdoin victories. The Pasadena, California native did not allow a run in four starts, including a bid at a no-hitter in a one-hit, 12-strikeout performance against Mt. St. Mary's (14-0). In addition, Nelson was victorious in a pair of 1-0 contests (over Middlebury and Union) and also beat Albright 6-0.
The reigning NESCAC Rookie of the Year is 5-2 so far this season, with a microscopic 1.12 ERA in eight appearances.
