Pouravelis, Flaherty Earn NESCAC Honors

BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College women's basketball players Eileen Flaherty (Fairfield, Conn.) and Justine Pouravelis (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) have both been named First-Team All-NESCAC in All-Conference selections announced Thursday. In addition, Pouravelis claimed her second straight NESCAC Defensive Player of the Year award. The second-ranked Polar Bears (24-2) will host Alvernia in a second-round NCAA game at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Flaherty earns her second consecutive First-Team selection after leading the Polar Bears in scoring at 15.6 points per game. The sophomore forward was also co-Rookie of the Year as a first-year, and started every game this season for Bowdoin. Flaherty was twice recognized as the NESCAC's Player of the Week this season, and scored her career high of 32 in a victory at Colby in January. In two seasons, Flaherty has scored 743 points and grabbed 322 rebounds.

Pouravelis earned her second straight Defensive Player of the Year award and was promoted to a First-Team choice after making the NESCAC's Second-Team last season. One of the top all-around players in the nation, the junior forward is averaging 8.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.7 steals and 1.5 blocks per game this year. In three seasons, Pouravelis already holds Bowdoin career marks in blocks (146) and is eighth in steals (169) and just recently became the ninth member of the school's 500-rebound club (521).
