BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's ice hockey team has placed two players on the NESCAC's First-Team All-Conference as sophomore forward Meghan Gillis (Whycocomagh, N.S.) and first-year defender Kristen Cameron (Charlottetown, P.E.I.) have claimed recognition. Cameron was also tabbed as the NESCAC Rookie of the Year, while senior captain Marissa O'Neil (Manchester, N.H.) and junior goaltender Cat MacEachern earned second-team selections. The Polar Bears (19-3-1) are ranked fourth in the latest national poll and will host the NESCAC Championship weekend on Saturday and Sunday, March 5-6.
Gillis was Bowdoin's top scorer this season, scoring 19 goals and adding 19 assists. The 2003-04 NESCAC Rookie of the Year is closing in the 100-point plateau, having scored 43 career goals and 38 career assists. She was also Bowdoin's top special teams threat, scoring four powerplay goals and one shorthanded goal this year.
Cameron claimed first-team honors and NESCAC Rookie of the Year thanks to a stellar first-year campaign that saw her lead the squad from defense with 20 goals on the year. She led all NESCAC rookie scorers and was a difference-maker, scoring seven game-winning goals this year, including back-to-back game-winning tallies against Williams and Middlebury earlier this season.
O'Neil had an oustanding senior year, capping off a stellar career at Bowdoin. The senior captain led Bowdoin with 21 assists this season, and her 76 career assists place her second all-time at the school. Cat MacEachern was solid in goal all year for the Polar Bears, and led the conference in both save percentage (.929) and goals-against average (1.26) this season.
The Bowdoin College women's ice hockey team would also like to invite all fans to a "Fan Appreciation Party" on Saturday, March 5 in the atrium of Druckenmiller Hall at 3:15, following the NESCAC semifinal against Hamilton College.
